Verstappen crashed during Saturday’s qualifying, but a significant Red Bull upgrade package transformed his Sunday performance. “I honestly didn’t think I would fight for the win,” the Dutchman admitted afterwards. Team principal comments suggested the leap owed as much to Verstappen’s driving as to the new parts themselves.
Mercedes Still Leads, But Cracks Are Showing

Russell’s win extended his advantage in the drivers’ standings, yet the result masked growing tension within the Mercedes garage. Teammate Kimi Antonelli, considered the faster driver on raw pace, made costly early errors that likely cost him the race.
Meanwhile, Ferrari’s weekend unravelled. Brake overheating and tyre degradation left both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton well off the pace, a stark contrast to their strong showing in Barcelona — a reminder of how volatile the 2026 regulations have made competitive order.
An Upgrade War With Silverstone Next
