Kimi Antonelli delivered a statement weekend at Silverstone, sweeping both Saturday’s sprint race and main qualifying to leave home favourite Lewis Hamilton searching for answers ahead of Sunday’s British Grand Prix.
Conditions were ideal — 25°C in the air, 40°C on track, with a swirling wind adding an unpredictable edge to every corner. The Silverstone crowd, widely regarded as Formula 1’s most passionate, filled the paddock from the gates opening and roared throughout.

Sprint Race: Antonelli’s Composed Masterclass

Hamilton led from pole and held off his young rival for seven laps before Antonelli struck on lap eight, executing a decisive move that the Italian, just past his 19th birthday, described as simply waiting for his moment. Hamilton crossed the line 2.7 seconds adrift, admitting he had “gave it absolutely everything” but couldn’t break the crucial one-second gap.
Qualifying: Mercedes Dominance Continues

Antonelli backed up his sprint win by topping qualifying too, beating teammate Hamilton and a resurgent Charles Leclerc. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen endured a torrid session, qualifying seventh behind teammate Isack Hajar — a result Verstappen called “bad and embarrassing”.
What to Expect on Race Day

With Antonelli looking unstoppable, Sunday’s race promises a fascinating fight for the remaining podium places between Hamilton, Leclerc, and a recovering George Russell.
