The Myth of the F1 Private Jet Fleet
It is widely assumed that Formula 1’s millionaire drivers each keep a private jet on standby. The reality, according to a new video investigation, is rather different. Across the 2026 grid, only one driver has clearly documented ownership of a modern long-range aircraft.
Verstappen Stands Alone
Max Verstappen is confirmed as the sole current driver who owns his jet outright: a Dassault Falcon 8X registered PH-UTL, reportedly listed at around $58 million. Sergio Perez, meanwhile, flies a family-operated Bombardier Challenger 604, run alongside relatives rather than as a solo purchase.
Chartering Over Owning
Lewis Hamilton sold his Bombardier Challenger 605 back in 2019, and drivers including Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris and George Russell are regularly photographed boarding private aircraft with no record of ownership. Most rely on charter operators, team jets, or fractional programmes such as Flexjet, F1’s newly appointed official aviation partner for 2026.
Why the Numbers Rarely Add Up
Annual running costs for a jet like Verstappen’s can exceed $4 million, on top of the purchase price. For most drivers, chartering remains the far more practical choice, even on eight-figure salaries.
