Why Budapest Is the Perfect Test

The Hungaroring is a slow, twisty, high-downforce circuit often compared to Monaco. With minimal straights, cars stay in max-downforce trim throughout, and energy deployment issues that hampered teams at Spa largely disappear. Pirelli has also brought its softest tyre compounds — C3, C4 and C5 — for a circuit known for high tyre wear and frequent pit stops.

At Spa, Aston Martin trailed the front-runners by four to five seconds, with Fernando Alonso lapped twice and finishing 19th. Insiders suggest the new package could be worth two-and-a-half to three seconds a lap — a substantial gain, but one that may still leave the team fighting in the midfield rather than the points.
